Art Exhibition April 1 to 10 '16 Prithvi House

Balraj KN
A freelance Cartoonist with over 18 years of experience in the field, Balraj originally studied sculpture and holds an MA for it from the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat, Bangalore. He has had his cartoons, caricatures and illustrations published and exhibited in India and abroad. Additionally, he has worked with top agencies to create cartoons and illustrations for numerous campaigns and is currently a copywriter.









Chandan Gomes
Chandan won the India Habitat Centre Fellowship for Photography in 2011, Oslo University Scholarship to participate in Chobi Mela in 2012, Neel Dongre Award in Photography in 2013 and the Foto Visura Spotlight Grant in 2014. His first artist book, 'This World of Dew', published by PHOTOINK, was released in 2015. Themes of beauty, imitation and abandonment interest him as a photographer.
He currently teaches at the Sri Aurobindo Centre for Arts & Communications, Delhi.



Dimpy Menon
Dimpy recently became the first Indian sculptor to win the Lorenzo il Magnifico Bronze Award at the Florence Biennale. Dimpy has been called a ‘Natural’ by World Sculpture magazine. When the Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai re-opened its lobby after the terror attacks of 26/11 a prominent change was a bronze sculpture there by Dimpy. The seven-foot composition has been described as “stunning” by the travel guru Mary Gostelow. Dimpy has had over 50 exhibitions in India and abroad.



George Mathen
Appupen is a graphic novelist and artist. He makes stories, comics and art from the world of Halahala. Appupen's graphic novels are bestsellers in Halahala and three have been published on Earth too: 'Moonward' (from Blaft, 2009), 'Legends of Halahala' and 'Aspyrus' (2012, 2014, Harper Collins). “Stories are cheaper in Halahala, so I buy large quantities and retail them at a higher rate locally”, says Appupen who has a double MBA.











Jenny Pinto
Jenny believes in making paper the old fashioned way. She makes a unique range of beautiful, translucent and textured paper from agricultural and craft waste fibres like banana, sisal, mulberry, various rivers grasses, pineapple and more, and designs a range of lights, home accessories and stationery using her own paper. She also helps NGOs with design and technical inputs, to set up small rural groups of women entrepreneurs.









Rowena Girneet Baweja
Rowena began painting at a very young age. She is a Graduate of Cinematography from The University of Arts, London. ‘The Undertaker’ her graduation film was screened at the Cannes Short Film Quarter in 2005. Her work as an artist can be best described as avant-garde. She herself is unorthodox & experimental in her approach and this is reflected in her works.



Salmin Sheriff
Sal is a Bangalore based playwright, director, actor, poet, painter. He has been involved in theatre for over twenty five years. He is a founder member of PlayPen, a theatre company started by Mahesh Dattani. When he is not writing, directing or acting, he moonlights as a painter.










Shaizia Jifri
Shaizia is an illustrator and artist who wears many other hats. She is a Drama teacher, a full time mum, a photographer and a puppeteer. She has run a shop, a restaurant and guesthouse, raced in an auto-rickshaw rally, worked in event management, made ad films, modelled, acted on stage and even sold life insurance for a short and embarrassing amount of time. Her work comes from a life filled with mixed cultural influences and somewhat unusual experiences.




Sudeep Bhattacharya
Sudeep Bhattacharya completed his Master's of Arts from Queensland College of Art, Griffith Film School, Australia. After, he worked as a short film writer-director, bagging a few accolades for his short film 'She Remembers', including the Best New Film maker Award from the Pacific Film and Television Commission and a finalist’s slot in the Melbourne International Film Festival. He moved back to India in 2005, and currently straddles the fields of photography and film, with a keen interest in new media technology and how that can redefine storytelling.


Sunandini Banerjee
Sunandini Banerjee is both Senior Editor and Senior Graphic Designer at Seagull Books, and designs all of their books, book covers and catalogues. She digitally mixes eclectically compiled materials for highly detailed newly invented motifs. Her work as an illustrator includes Thomas Bernhard’s Victor Halfwit: A Winter’s Tale (Seagull Books, 2010) and a new translation of Isha Upanishad (Seagull Books, 2013). Additionally, she has done a suite of 12 collages for Ivan Vladislavic’s The Loss Library (Seagull Books, 2011) and a suite of 13 for Diane Meur’s In Dreams.
