Day 6

7 April 2016
Thursday
Prithvi Theatre

The colour of the day at Writers' Bloc 4 was Rainbow on day 6. The day kicked off wih a well-attended screening titled 'Best Of KASHISH', of films based on lives of the members of the LGBTQ community. The evening also remained abuzz with two shows of our Pune play, 'Tutak'. The play garnered generally good reactions at the festival. The musical performance of the day also was ahit with Omkar Patil and his bandmates performing three distinct and original songs, one about 'Ulta Pyaar', another gazal and finally a song about hate. Singer Songwriters ruled the day as Namit Das and Anurag Shankar's amazing workshop also kicked off in the evening.

It was a day quieter than the rest at Writers' Bloc but equally eventful in terms of the happenings at Prithvi Theatre. With just 3 days to go, Writers' Bloc looks forward to some more great talks and sessions, and of course 3 more exciting plays!
Play of the Day

Tutak is a play about Malhar, a man caught in the tangle of his love for two people - Kaveri, the woman to be his wife and Niko, his on and off boyfriend. Torn between trying to be ‘normal’ for his overbearing father, honest to his to-be wife and faithful to his boyfriend, will he eventually give in to one side of his personality, or manage to make it all work together by accepting his bisexuality?

The Playwright

Director's Note
“When I first read the script of Tutak, I didn’t much like it. I thought the characters were too real and situations not very dramatic. But in the process of directing it, I realized that the simplicity of the script is the strength of this play and I am trying my best to maintain that human simplicity of the characters in the play. So the issue of bisexuality becomes more of a backdrop; what comes forth is the complexity of a love triangle between two men and a woman.” - Zameer Kamble
